COSMIC LEAF, the experimental, indie/alternative duo of Aaron Coyne and Aaron Hurley, today released their new album, Are Androids Stung By Electric Bees?.
The album - the title of which is a play on Philip K Dick’s celebrated 1968 novel, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, which later inspired the film, Bladerunner - is released via cosmicleafband.bandcamp.com.
The album features Aaron Coyne (aka indie singer-songwriter Yawning Chasm ) and Aaron Hurley (Phantom Dog Beneath The Moon, Cubs ) on electric guitar, synth, mandolin and the esoteric ukelin.
.
“We started to play in the summer of 2017 with no particular plan or concept except we would improvise without any or much discussion,” says Coyne. “Mr Hurley recorded the sessions and we sieved through them for anything reasonably good that someone besides us might enjoy listening to.
“The point was that the process was one of 'playing' - having fun exploring sound and textures, and to get to know each other as musicians by having these 'conversations'. This first release is intended really as a taster, just three tracks.
Cosmic Leaf plans to release another album in the next year, with more conventional long lengths and structures, and “exploring more textures and moods and fooling around with a various assortment of instruments”.
Are Androids Stung By Electric Bees? Is available for download from Bandcamp for €7. There is also an option to pay €10 and receive the download, along with an original piece of abstract by Aaron Coyne - an example of which is above - along with liner notes for the album.
