An important WNL encounter is scheduled for Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday afternoon when Galway WFC host DLR Waves (2pm ).
Galway WFC manager Stephen Lally remains confident that significant talent is emerging in the west with several teenagers being afforded first team football this year.
A late Bohemians' goal ensured Galway divided the spoils at Dalymount Park following Sinéad Donovan’s effort for the visitors’.
“We were very disappointed with the result,” Lally says. “We created a lot of chances, but we didn't finish enough of them. We got a great goal, we were well in control of the game. One or two mistakes led to them getting a free-kick, it was a bad goal to give away. It was nearly the only shot they had on target.
“The positives for us - we tried to do the right things, we created a good few chances - we needed to finish them, we didn't and then we conceded a late equaliser which was so disappointing. The late goal could have been avoided.”
Lally wants his promising team to continue passing and probing. “The only thing I can say is we weren't as bright as we were in the first half an hour against Cork City, but there was a lot of good patches of play,” he adds.
“A lot broke down, too, though because we need to be more secure with our passing. It was disappointing that we gave the ball away at times, we just weren't as sharp as we should have been.
“We did try to do the right things. That is important to us, I want us to play. I'm encouraging them to pass, to keep the ball, we will work on that and getting them to play in the right areas.”
Galway WFC’s U19 outfit impressed against Wexford Youths with Lally watching some of the players, who are training with his senior squad.
“I went to the U19 game on Sunday, it was a terrific game against a good Wexford side,” Lally says.
“That was great to see. A lot of our U19s are training with the senior team. They were terrific, we knew they had the game against Wexford, but I explained to the U19s, who are training with us that they need matches.
“They are doing great in training, but I want them to get minutes playing football. Going forward I know we have a lot of talent.”
Recent signings Meabh De Burca and Julie Ann Russell, pending international clearance, may be available to bolster Lally’s options.
