Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Galway gig for summer 2022

Pennsylvania indie-rockers on the crest of a wave following release of critically acclaimed new album

CLAP YOUR Hands Say Yeah entered the hearts of many indie fans with the release of their debut album in 2005 and the now classic indie anthem, ‘The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth’ the following year.

For many, it seemed they would never again capture the magic of those songs, but Alec Ounsworth, the man who is Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, proved the doubters wrong earlier this year with the release of New Fragility.

CYHSY will be playing songs from that album, and from across their near 20 year career, when they tour Ireland next year. The tour will include a date at the Róisín Dubh on Friday June 10.

Prolific and enigmatic as ever, Ounsworth’s recent works marry the quirky, left-field spirit of the early years, with a well-earned confidence, and grander sense of scale and sensitivity. New Fragility, in particular, which came out in February, has seen the Pennsylvania native earn some of the best reviews of his career.

“All Clap Your Hands Say Yeah records are to some degree interesting, but this feels like a work that will stand the test of time,” declared Louder Than War. “It’s the strongest album put out under the banner for quite some time,” according to The Line of Best Fit, while Paste said, “This batch is as tuneful and accessible as anything Ounsworth has written so far.”
