ROBOCOBRA QUARTET, hailed as “pioneers” by the BBC and who have been compared to a cross between Fugazi and Charles Mingus by Drowned in Sound, are coming to Galway.
The band, which comprises saxophones, bass guitar, and samplers surrounding a drummer-vocalist Chris W Ryan, will play the Dominick Street venue on Thursday September 2.
The band describe themselves as “Free punk”, and draw inspiration from 20th century Russian composer Igor Stravinsky and American hardcore icons Black Flag. Improvisation and experimentation, allied with a post-punk ethos is at the heart of their approach. Their music is groove-driven but cerebral, free but complex. The Quietus has called it “a cunning marriage of jazz, spoken word and punk".
The band has played the Montreux Jazz Festival, Latitude Festival, and the Inversia Festival in northern Russia.
