Take a musical trip to Greece with ConTempo

Greek dance and classical music to feature in online concert from The Mick Lally Theatre

“THINKING IS the best way to travel,” sang The Moody Blues in 1968, and with the Covid-19 pandemic, journeys of the imagination are the best way to ‘go abroad’.

Galway will be able to take such a trip to Greece when the mighty ConTempo Quartet perform an online concert of music by Greek composers on Friday June 25 at 1pm.

The concert will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, with the performance taking place in The Mick Lally Theatre. It is part of the Galway Music Residency’s From Europe with Love series.

.

The concert will feature works by Mikis Theodorakis and Nikos Skalkotta. Much of the programme consists of Greek dances or music inspired by the Greek dance tradition, none more famous than the title track from the 1964 film, Zorba the Greek. The show will be introduced by Dr Natasha Remoundou, of NUI Galway, who will give a personal reflection on the repertoire.

Admission to the concert is free on Facebook and YouTube and can be watched back following the performance.
