ConTempo to perform online concert of Slovenian music

Acclaimed quartet to perform music by 20th Century composers in concert recorded at Oughterard Courthouse

GALWAY CAN immerse itself in the music of Slovenia when the ConTempo Quartet perform music from that country with an online concert tomorrow, Friday May 21 at 1pm.

The concert - part of the Galway Music Residency’s From Europe with Love series, featuring music from the 27 EU member states - will be available for free on Facebook and YouTube, and can be watched back following the performance.

The concert was recorded at Oughterard Courthouse and will feature works by 20th Century composers Marijan Lipovšek and Uroš Krek, and contemporary composer Nina Šenk [pictured below]. Complex, thought-provoking, at times unnerving, this programme is some of the most technically difficult music featured so far in the series.

.

The concert will be introduced by Galway-based composer Jane O’Leary and Galway Music Residency’s general manager Maeve Bryan, who will discuss the concert’s programme, the history of Slovenian music, and the process of selecting the music featured in From Europe with Love.
