‘Viable explosive device’ found in Tuam

Army explosives experts were in Tuam yesterday to deal with an explosive device which was discovered in a housing estate in the town.

Gardai were called to the Cuirt na Cora estate at 8.30am yesterday (Wednesday ) to deal with the device. A number of houses in the vicinity were evacuated and an Army bomb disposal team from Athlone was also dispatched to the scene.

The object, which was deemed to have been a viable explosive device, was made safe and removed. Gardai have appealed for information following the incident.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Millstream Park or Weir Road in Tuam on the night of Tuesday May 11, up to 8.30am on Wednesday May 12, and who may have information is asked to contact Tuam Garda Station on (093 ) 70840.

Anyone who has video footage, including dash cam footage in these areas, which may be of assistance is asked to also contact Tuam Garda Station.
