The quality of the water at all four designated bathing areas in Galway city - Salthill, Silverstrand, Grattan Road, and Ballyloughane - has been given a positive report for the 2021 season.
The verdict follows the publication, on Wednesday, by the Environmental Protection Agency of its annual report on Bathing Water Quality in Ireland. Salthill and Silverstrand have retained their “excellent status”; Grattan Road has retained its “sufficient status”; while Ballyloughane Beach has been upgraded from “poor” to “sufficient”.
“This is a very good result for Galway and we will continue to monitor the quality of our bathing waters,” the Galway City Council said in a statement.
The bathing season officially starts on June 1t and a new round of sampling at all four beaches will commence then.
