Simon Mawhinney - in concert at NUIG

Innovative County Down composer to perform works by Messiaen and his own Solo Fingers

SIMON MAWHINNEY, the innovative and intriguing composer and pianist from County Down, is to give a concert live streamed from NUI Galway.

The concert is free and takes place on Wednesday May 5 at 1pm. The programme will be four pieces from Olivier Messiaen’s Vingt Regards - ‘Regard du Père’, ‘Noël’, ‘Je dors, mais mon coeur veille’, ‘Regard de l’esprit de joie’; and Three pieces from Mawhinney’s own Solo Fingers.

Mawhinney draws from compositional techniques such as post-spectral and computer assisted composition. He is particularly interest in the large scale 20th Century works of Messiaen, Sorabji, and Feldman and has played internationally with a repertoire from Bach to Boulez.

This is a ‘Music for Galway and NUI Galway Arts in Action presents…’ concert, in partnership with SAP. It will be broadcast from the O'Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance.
