A DANCER, a performance artist, and two writers have been announced as this year’s recipients of the Remote Control artist development programme.
Aifric Bruen, Eibhleann Caffery, Siobhan Manson, and Jenni Nikinmaa will take part in the three month residency programme which is an initiative of Brú Theatre Company, the Town Hall Theatre, and Galway Dance Project.
Remote Control offers each of the four artists €1,500, in-house workshops, and remote mentorships with established international artists. The focus is not necessarily to produce finished pieces, but to find new ways to engage with audiences, especially during this time of social distancing and restrictions; for the recipients to develop their artistic practice; and explore new ideas.

Aifric Bruen is a performance artist and musician from Galway. Her practice is informed by the idea of a duality within the self - the primal versus the mechanical. As a part of Remote Control she will create video/sound/dance work, reflecting on farming landscapes in the west of Ireland, and the ethics of a modernised, yet somewhat ancient Ireland.

Eibhleann Caffrey is a writer and director based in Galway. Her writing explores issues facing Irish teens and the influence of social media. She will be developing a play which performs the world inside our phones.

Siobhán Manson is a Galway based dancer and choreographer. She trained with the Hession school and spent more than 10 years as principal dancer with Riverdance. With Remote Control, she will explore the use of spoken word in dance choreography.

Jenni Nikinmaa is a playwright and theatre-maker from Finland, now living on Inis Mór. She was shortlisted for the Alpine Fellowship Theatre Prize in 2020. During Remote Control, she will explore how immersive and socially distant theatre can work on Inis Mór.
