Amy’s House Creche named after Hazel’s daughter Amy is a purpose built childcare facility situated in the heart of the community in Claregalway close to the Claregalway National School. Hazel Curran and her strong team provide for young babies, wobblers, toddlers, preschool and Afterschool children.
Since its foundation in 2005 by Hazel who coming from a strong business background, quickly discovered that the business needed to grow with its clients. While Hazel started with just three little clients during her first week of business she is now providing extra services including an after school club.
The creche provides a breakfast club in the mornings from 7.30am, with a school run to the Claregalway National School right across the road. The Ecce free preschool which is provided was a very welcome scheme for both children and parents and is available for 38 weeks of the year. A dedicated after school service is in place called Amy’s Den.
Amy’s House specialises in small numbers and manager Carole can see the benefit of this to the children and staff on a daily basis. “We now pride ourselves on being a select service with more time to give to the needs of the child. The large outdoor area with a fairy fort, camp fire, vegetable patch, sand pit and a mud kitchen sees many hours of fun,” she says.
Hazel prides herself on the quality of the food, freshly prepared with care in-house everyday with recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother. The needs of the children are met daily by Hazel’s child friendly staff, under the warm guidance of manager Carole and deputy Roxana.
As Hazel approaches her 16th year meeting the childcare needs of the community, she has seen a lot of positive changes in childcare like the ECCE scheme, and the National Childcare scheme to name but a few. The introduction of highly skilled staff in the industry is refreshing and Hazel believes that the next few years will be very exciting within the childcare sector.
