Galway’s Filling Station Eco Store has just scooped the Favourite Independent Retailer Award in the V Awards run by Wasted.ie. From a shortlist of five nominated stores located throughout Ireland, in a competition where customer votes were the benchmark for success, The Filling Station came out on top.
Wasted.ie champion and promote brands and individuals where sustainability is the core ethos, and this year’s V Awards were their inaugural competition.
Needless to say, The Filling Station owner, John Tedders, was delighted with the win.
Speaking after the results for 18 categories were announced at the end of March, John said they are so grateful to win this award as it is a recognition by our customers for the work they are doing.
“For everyone, this has been a difficult year, so to get this recognition based on votes from our customers, who are now all over Ireland is amazing.
“Before the first lockdown in March of last year, we didn’t have any online retail presence, but we quickly had to get an online store operational (www.thefillingstationecostore.ie ).
“At the end of last Summer we teamed up with www.neighbourfood.ie and we now operate in many of their online marketplaces too.” He added, “these online opportunities have been the difference for us over the last year and we’re continue to be grateful to our loyal customers who still come through the door in Upper Abbeygate Street each day,” he said.
