Cllr Alan Cheevers wants a co-ordinated approach involving An Garda Síochana, community groups, and the local authority to help stop vandalism.
Following vandalism carried out at the community garden in Doughiska, Cllr Cheevers is calling for a response.
"I would ask residents in the community to be vigilant if they see any antisocial behavior or vandalism in the area and to please report it," he says.
"This is particularly very upsetting for the volunteers who put so much of their time making the garden a great place for the community to enjoy.
"I believe this is something we have seen across the city before in public amenities, and I believe we really need to see a better security approach for these amenities and a new coordinated approach by gardaí, community groups and local authority.
"These amenities more than ever are so important to communities and it is very disappointing to see this vandalism by a small few."
