There has been a 53 per cent increase in fines issued for speeding offences in Galway city in the opening two months of this year compared to the same period in 2020.
The figures were released during Monday's Joint Policing Committee meeting. Speeding offences in Galway city have risen significantly with 611 recorded in January and February in 2020 and 399 during the same time in 2021.
In relation to fraud in the first two months of 2021 a total of 67 offences have been committed. Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said there has been an increase in 'white collar crime' and it is an area that extra resources will be put into to properly investigate.
