Xerotech announces expansion plans in Claregalway

In response to increased demand for electrification in the non-road mobile machinery market, Xerotech, the Claregalway-based battery manufacturer and integrator, is announcing a series of developments to provide the additional capacity required for its planned business growth over the coming years.

This includes the acquisition of an additional three units in the Claregalway Corporate Park, located immediately next to their current design centre. This extends their current footprint to 50,000 sq. ft, which will now include two dedicated units for fully automated serial manufacturing lines and a third to support Xerotech’s planned headcount growth of 70 new staff over the next 6-months.

Dr. Barry Flannery, Xerotech’s CEO and Founder says Xerotech’s location in Claregalway has been a fantastic operating base as direct motorway access and being outside of city traffic gives them a huge catchment area for recruitment.

“We are scaling and ramping as fast as possible despite the challenges of quarantines, visa restrictions and general business disruptions,” he said.

Xerotech is also in final stages of green-field site selection in Galway for its European Gigafactory Complex which will exceed 250,000 sq. ft in its first phase. The facility is due to come online in late 2024 and will increase Xerotech’s manufacturing capacity by 20-fold in a state-of-the-art highly automated manufacturing environment.

Flannery says nobody could have predicted the scale and speed of the electrification shift. Xerotech are on the front line with OEM customer requests and have insight to what is coming in the next 2-3 years.

“We’re able to see into the future to a certain extent as we receive manufacturing forecasts and project request from OEMs long before products are even announced. There is a massive shift underway right now with virtually every single manufacturer in the world building fully electric equipment prototypes and looking for battery systems.

There is zero doubt now that electric vehicles, of all types, are going to dominate this decade and, ultimately, this century. It’s a great time to be in the battery business.”

Xerotech, a European company based in the Republic of Ireland, is a manufacturer and integrator of battery systems for non-road mobile machinery (NRMM ).

All R&D and manufacturing of the battery systems are carried out in Galway. Xerotech currently has a large number of vacancies related to injection moulding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication and welding, production machinery design, automation and robotics.
