Baily Point needs ‘a face-lift’ says Higgins

Councillor says intervention is needed to force improvements works be carried out on the exterior

The Baily Point complex in Salthill is risking becoming “an eyesore” with plaster falling off its exterior and its external façade “in a very poor state”.

This is the view of Fine Gael Galway City West councillor, Clodagh Higgins, who has expressed her frustration at the fact the Galway City Council will not intervene and order the owner to address the state of the Baily Point’s exterior.

Cllr Higgins [pictured below] has been working with City Hall and apartment owners to try and reach a conclusion, but accepted that the issue cannot be pursued under planning enforcement, and that there are complexities regarding ownership of public areas of the development.

.

“The apartment owners hands are tied at present due to the complex situation regarding ownership of the building and someone needs to assist,” she said.

Cllr Higgins has written to the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Darragh O’ Brien, requesting that this “policy and legislative lacunae” is addressed in the interests of “maintaining the positive features of the building” and to ensure that the plaster “which is falling off does not cause any health and safety impact”.
