IT WAS in the cold, dark, early, hours of a winter morning. He ventured to the waters of the Dublin's River Liffey, "in search of his purpose in life", and there he was "approached and consoled by a friend".
The friend the young man saw was a swan, and seeing the animal reminded him "why life has so much to be valued for." This initially harrowing, yet ultimately uplifting, personal experience for Kevin Neary, inspired him to write the song, 'Hopelessly True'.
'Hopelessly True' is the second single from the 25-year-old, Mountbellew born, Dublin based, singer-songwriter, and is out now.
"It is a sad, but cosy, acoustic/indie-folk tale of this singer-songwriter's cathartic 2am venture to the winter waters of the River Liffey," said Kevin. "This real-life experience inspired the song to be written, right there, on the steps by the waters of the river, in the small hours of the morning, retelling every detail of that fateful meeting."
The single is the follow-up to Neary's debut track, 'Take Me Anywhere'. His inspirations include Dermot Kennedy, James Vincent McMorrow, The Coronas, Bon Iver, Passenger, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. He has played Whelan's, The Workman's Club, The Button Factory, Róisín Dubh, and Ronnie Scott's in London.
