With the number of enquiries to Grow Mental Health soaring by 400% since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the charity is hosting online support groups throughout the country and several of these are based in Galway.
As well as long-established groups continuing online with Galway Area Coordinator Alan Keaveney, many more groups have also been set up specifically to welcome newcomers.
Grow Mental Health’s peer-support service, operating in Ireland since 1969, is a testament to the vital role that other people play in the recovery of the individual.
Its 12-Step Programme is a collection of tried and tested practical tips, wisdom and encouragement that members find helpful on their own journey of recovery.
One wisdom, “You Alone Can Do It But You Cannot Do It Alone”, particularly resonates with members at the moment, who are feeling increased isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Grow continues to provide mental health support to the community during these difficult times,” said Ruairí Powell, Grow Regional Manager, “It is our hope to increase our services in the Galway area over the coming months through both our online and face to face group meetings. We would like to thank the people of Galway for their continued support of our activities.”
