Crowe calls on Taoiseach to reward 'sacrifice' of healthcare workers

Issuing of voucher scheme would, in the short term, serve as a 'small acknowledgement of the nation’s thanks for their heroic efforts'

The "sacrifices of healthcare workers" during Covid-19 must be "acknowledged and rewarded" by the Government in the form of a voucher or gift.

This is the view of Fianna Fáil senator, Ollie Crowe, who has written to An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin with this request. He wrote: “These workers have put everything on the line for the last twelve months, their personal health and that of their families in order to protect the people of this country. Many have suffered with Covid-19 as a result, some have been in ICU and unfortunately some have passed away.”

'An example to all of us'

.

Sen Crowe said the terms and conditions under which healthcare workers are employed need to be examined and approved. However, he said the issuing of a voucher scheme would, in the short term, serve as a "small acknowledgement of the nation’s thanks for their heroic efforts over the last twelve months.”

Sen Crowe describes healthcare workers in the State as "an example to all of us" for how they have dealt with the "severe pressure for extended periods of time" of the Covid pandemic.
