Readings and book launches

Galway writers Maureen Gallagher and Alan McMonagle will read at An Spidéal Library this evening at 7.30pm. Maureen will read from her first collection of poetry Calling The Tune, while Alan will read from his new collection of short stories Liar, Liar. Both writers are published by WordsontheStreet.

The Athenry Heritage Centre in association with Poetry Ireland will present an evening of poetry with Michael Coady tomorrow at 8pm where he will be joined by singer Claire McLoughlin.

The renowned Tipperary poet is a member of Aosdána. In 2004 he received the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award for Poetry of the University of St Thomas Centre for Irish Studies, St Paul, Minnesota.

Book launches

This Saturday, two new books from Salmon Poetry will be launched in the Galway City Museum at 1pm. The books are At Grattan Road, Gerard Hanberry’s third collection of poetry, and The Essential Guide to Flight, a first collection of poems from Canadian born poet Celeste Augé.

Celeste’s book will be launched by the Galway City Writer in Residence Michael O’Loughlin. The award winning poet and short story writer Geraldine Mills will launch Gerard’s collection.

Those interested in politics should take note of Sinn Féin and the politics of Left Republicanism by Eoin O’Broin which will also be launched on Saturday in the Imperial Hotel at 5pm.

Sinn Fein activist Eoin O’Broin explores the ideological and organisational origins of the party, charts its history and recent political development. He is a former Sinn Féin councillor for North Belfast and the author to Matxinada: Basque Nationalism & Radical Basque Youth Movements.
