COPE Galway, the Galway Traveller Movement, and the Galway Community Circus are among the local groups and organisations receiving funding under the Healthy Ireland Community Mental Health Fund.
The Galway City Local Community Development Committee recently approved grants totalling €30,000 to a wide range of community, voluntary and sporting organisations in Galway city under the newly established Healthy Ireland CMHF Small Grant Scheme 2020. The CMHF Small Grant Scheme 2020 is funded by the Department of Health.
Galway groups set to benefit

A total of 10 projects have been approved for funding and all of the 10 projects relate to one or more of the key priority areas as identified in Healthy Galway City Strategy 2019-2021.
Galway Community Circus will receive €4,980 to run a workshop for young people, using circus as a unique way to teach anxiety management; Galway Sports Partnership will get €4,000 for 80 Community health and wellbeing boards, which will be placed in local sports clubs, and be interactive with social media.
ARD Family Resource Centre has been granted €2,920 to run an interdisciplinary arts project, ‘Happy Out’ for those aged between eight and 12. The centre’s Community Sports Hub has also received €3,000 to develop its Our Sisters in Sport programme.
Funding towards Traveller programmes
The Galway Traveller Movement has received €3,000 to deliver a series of workshops, entitled Promoting Diversity and Equality in Mental Health Practice: The Traveller voice’, to be delivered to mental health service providers working in Galway.
Youth Work Ireland Galway will get €2,330 for a scheme where participants are all young people from the Travelling community. They will receive instruction, support, and education about wellness and nutrition.

ATMOS Collective has been given €2,900 for the ‘Here Am I’ community film initiative, which older people impacted by isolation in Galway to make their own film and sound project; COPE Galway will receive €2,865 for a gardening project for individuals who use its service at the new Emergency accommodation at Glen Oaks Hotel.
Ballinfoile Castlegar Neighbourhood Centre, which will receive €2,814 towards delivery of care packages along with a programme of events, including chair yoga, cooking demonstration, art, and other events.
The Galway Centre for Independent Living CLG will get €1,190 for singing lessons, sing-along sessions, and the formation of a GCIL Choir.
