Fantasy drama shot in East Galway to have TG4 screening

.Finky, a movie shot in East Galway will be the first film from the Cine4 scheme to air on TG4 when it screens on New Year’s Day.e. Cine4 is a partnership between TG4, Screen Ireland, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI ) to develop original feature films in the Irish language.

Dathaí Keane’s Finky tells the story of Micí Finky, a musician with a tragic past who is crippled in a car accident and given a chance at redemption when he is recruited by a violent, avant-garde circus. Finky embarks on a psychedelic, high-speed odyssey but, as his journey becomes increasingly hellish and surreal, he realises that he must confront his tormented past if he is to ever find peace.

Directed by Dathaí Keane and co written by Keane and Diarmuid De Faoite, Finky premiered to critical acclaim at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2019, winning the Award for Best Cinematography in an Irish Feature. The Film was also selected for official Competition as part of the ‘First Features’ programme at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Festival in 2019.

The film stars Dara Devaney as Finky, a role he received an IFTA nomination for this year in the Best Actor Category, also staring are Ned Dennehy, Diarmuid De Faoite, Fionnuala Gygax, and Eoin Geoghegan.

The scheme is an opportunity to create artistically ambitious films that will make an impact both at home and abroad.’

‘Finky’ was shot on location in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, and Glasgow. It is produced by Eileen Seoighe and Pierce Boyce for Abú Media Film Productions and is the first Irish Language Feature to emerge from the Cine4 scheme funded by TG4, Screen Ireland, and BAI.

Cathal Watters is the cinematographer on the film and Dermot Diskin edited. Production Design is by Mark Kelly, Costume Designer is Triona Lillis, and Steve Lynch provided the score.
