€1.15 million boost for Galway students through Covid-19 support grant

More than 4,000 SUSI-supported students from Galway to receive €250 grant top-up

A total of 4,618 Galway students, who are supported by SUSI grants, will receive a one-off €250 Covid-19 grant this Friday.

The €250 grant will be made available this week as a top-up to SUSI student grants. For those not in receipt of a SUSI grant, a credit note, issued by NUIG and GMIT, which can then be used to reduce the Student Contribution Charge by €250.

The payment will be made tomorrow, Friday December 17, and will come to a total of €1.15 million. It has been welcomed by Galway Fine Gael senator, Seán Kyne [pictured above].

"The funding will provide additional support to students from Galway in recognition of the difficult and challenging circumstances in attending college this year due to Covid-19," he said. "Students have had to adapt quickly to changes such as online lectures and restricted access to on-campus supports like the library and IT facilities."
