There's a uniqueness about Galway that is centred in the Latin Quarter, the cultural beating heart of a city that offers an experience all of its own.

And because it was this area that gave us so much fun in normal times, this year, it was impacted the most, devoid of its lifeblood, the throngs whose feet strolled on those cobblestones streets.

And now, as we enjoy the loosening of restrictions, we can safely and responsibly share that experience again, keeping our business in town, keeping our town in business.

And it is a mantra that has never been as important as it is right now. Whether it’s the bookshop around the corner, the coffee shop next door, the restaurant down the street or the shop that always has that something special - now more than ever they need our support.

That’s exactly what you experience in The Latin Quarter. Most are owner-operator or family run businesses handed down from one generation to the next. Creating not only jobs but reasons for people to visit our city and experience that Galway welcome, we all know and love.

Often referred to as the cultural heart of the city, it’s home to the city’s most popular bars, restaurants, retailers and places to stay. Even in these challenging times, it’s wonderful to see businesses opening and relocating to the area and being part of this vibrant retail community. Harper, is a fashion boutique which has just moved to Mainguard Street. Èan bakery, restaurant and wine bar is new to Druid Lane. While 2 Wild Geese has recently opened on Cross Street.

Geographically, The Latin Quarter is best defined by some of Galway’s most historic landmarks. Starting at St. Nicholas’ Church it runs through Galway’s Saturday market and onto O’ Brien’s Bridge. From there it follows the River Corrib down to the Spanish Arch where the Galway City Museum is located and then meanders along Middle Street and turns up Buttermilk Lane where it joins the starting point.
