Galway City Council played Santa last week as they turned on the floodlights at Cappagh Park astro pitch which will enable children to use the facility for much longer than had been the case.
Knocknacarra FC’s Chairman John Reilly welcomed the arrival of the lights and expressed his gratitude to everyone who had been involved in this project.
“I would like to thank Brendan McGrath, Dermot Mahon and Carmel Kilcoynefrom the City Council who have delivered a state of the art LED floodlighting system to the young people of Knocknacarra. I would like to thankour West Ward Councillors John Connolly, Clodagh Higgins, Peter Keane, Donal Lyons, Niall McNelis and Niall Murphy who are dedicated advocates on behalf of their constituents in Knocknacarra.
“I would like to thank NoelGrealish, Hildegarde Naughton, Ollie Crowe, Eamon O Cuiv, Sean Kyne and Catherine Connolly each of whom advised and helped us along the way. Finally, I would like to thank the previous and present members o Knocknacarra Football Club, many of whom served on committees and as Chairpersons, who have worked towards this solution for a number o fyears.
“You have not been forgotten and I hope you can look at this fine facilitywith pride. During the lockdown we all realised how important it is fo rour kids to be able to go to school and to be able to play sport.
“The young people of Knocknacarra now have a place to train all year round- what a great Christmas present,” he said.
