Elaine Feeney to launch A Wiser Girl at special online event hosted by Charlie Byrne's Bookshop

IT IS 1975. Second Wave Feminism is in full flow and a young woman, escaping a failed relationship, travels to Italy to make her dream of becoming an artist a reality.

This is A Wiser Girl, the new novel from the Galway based author Moya Roddy, and published by Wordonthestreet. The novel will be launched at an online event hosted by Charlie Byrne's Bookshop. The launch will take place this evening, Thursday December 10, at 8pm, via the Charlie Byrne's Facebook page. The acclaimed poet and novelist, Elaine Feeney, will be the guest speaker.

"It engages with the paradoxes of life – body versus soul, art versus action, sex versus love," says Moya. "My love for the exquisite and refined art of medieval Sienna was also a rich source of inspiration."

.

The novel has already received great acclaim. "This is Normal People for a different generation," said Mary Morrissey, author of Prosperity Drive. The award winning Ballinalsoie writer, Nuala O'Connor has called it, "a funny, fast paced delight" filled with "sparkingling humour".

See Charlie Byrne’s Facebook page for the event link and details on how to tune into the launch. A Wiser Girl can be ordered from www.charliebyrne.ie
