The virtual Tree of Lights celebration at Galway Hospice takes place online this Sunday at 5pm.

Each light on the Galway Memorial Tree is a tribute to a loved one who has passed away, but Covid-19 means this year’s celebration is taking place virtually and everyone invited to watch the ‘switching on’ from the comfort of their homes online.

This year's ceremony will be hosted by Galway Bay FM’s Tom Gilmore, and it will feature festive music from Marc Roberts, Johnny Carroll - ‘The Man with the Golden Trumpet’, Ballinasloe soprano Rachel Goode, and Christine Canavan, Brian, Cian and Seán Thornton from Renmore.

The lights on the Galway Memorial Tree will be officially switched on by special guest Dáithí Ó Sé.

Director of fundraising and communications at Galway Hospice, Charlene Hurley, says the Tree of Lights celebration is an opportunity to remember and celebrate those we have lost and those we remember through our Memorial Tree.

”A sincere thank you to everyone who has sponsored a light on the Galway Memorial Tree this year. Covid-19 means we cannot all come together for this year’s event, but we can join together online to watch the celebration.”

Galway Hospice thanks Coillte for sponsoring this year’s Galway Memorial Tree, and Phil Grealish and St Columba’s Credit Union Mervue for their contribution to the clebration, and to the special guests and musicians for their support of Galway Hospice.
