Helen Hancock's charity classical concert for Simon

Oranmore soprano to be joined by tenor Owen Gilhooly in a show to raise funds for homeless services

A VIRTUAL evening of opera, oratorio, chamber music, and festive favourites, in aid of Galway Simon Community, takes place this weekend in the company of Oranmore soprano Helen Hancock.

The concert, which will feature music by Handel, Bach and Mozart, and The concert will be filmed in the Armorica restaurant, Oranmore, and exclusively available to view this Saturday, December 5, at 7.30pm.

Joining Helen will be the international tenor Owen Gilhooly, and a newly formed string quartet of Sinead Hayes (violin ), Coole Music's Rozanne Botha (violin ) and Tom Murphy (viola ), and Adrian Ivicevic (cello ). As well as song, there will be excerpts from Mozart's string quartets KV157 and KV172.

"I am so excited to work with Owen and such accomplished musicians: rehearsing together has brought us all so much joy," said Helen. "During the pandemic my home has been at the heart of everything - a workplace, a school, and a haven. I feel very strongly about fundraising for the Galway Simon Community who help those who have no home.”

"In addition to the huge challenges of the pandemic across our homelessness prevention and housing services, our fundraising has also been significantly impacted. We’re deeply grateful to Helen, and all those involved in this event, for continuing to find innovative ways to raise vital funds."

Tickets are available via galwaysimon.ie at €10 per household, with the option also available to purchase an additional ticket as a gift for half price. A link will be emailed to all ticket holders and will remain live for seven days after the event.
