More than 38,000 premises across County Galway are set to enjoy proper online connectivity with the installation of fibre optic broadband over the next year.
The work is being carried out as part of the National Broadband Contract and represents an investment of €153 million in the county. It is also expected that the works will help create additional jobs during the construction stage.

To date, more than 3,500 homes have been surveyed. The network design is complete, and build works are now progressing in Kiltormer, Oatfield, Annagh, Killconell, and Ahascragh.
The works have been welcomed by Independent Galway East TD, Seán Canney. “The requirement for broadband has been seen during the lockdown and the decision to invest in this contract by the last Government," he said. "It is now proving that we made the correct decision for the country and for rural Ireland. We now have to drive on with the installation as we need equal opportunity for all our citizens to connect."
