THE WORLD premiere of Rhona Clarke's O Vis Aeternitatis, along with music by Handel and Purcell, will be performed in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church this weekend.
Music for Galway and Galway 2020 will present the second in it's new series of vocal/choral concerts, Abendmusik. This show, entitled Resounding Landscapes, will be live streamed from St Nicholas' this Sunday, November 22, at 7pm.
The Resurgam choir and the Irish Baroque Orchestra, under director Peter Whelan, will perform Henry Purcell's Welcome To All The Pleasures, Handel's Dixit Dominus, and the premiere of Clarke's O Vis Aeternitatis.

November 22 is the feast day of St Cecilia, the patron saint of music. Henry Purcell's Welcome To All The Pleasures was written in 1683 at the behest of the Musical Society of London, to celebrate the saint's feast day.
Rhona Clarke’s O Vis Aeternitatis uses writings and melodies by the German Christian mystic, polymath, writer, composer, and philosopher, Hildegard von Bingen. The concert concludes with Handel's 1707 work, Dixit Dominus, which is based on Psalm 110, and which he composed at only 22-years of age.

Paper Boat opera postponed

Paper Boat, the community opera composed by Jessica Traynor and Elaine Agnew - written to mark the 700th anniversary oif St Nichoas' Collegiate Church - due to be live streamed in St Nicholas' on December 12, will not now go ahead. Music for Galway and Galway 2020 have made the decision to postpone the opera, and re-stage it at a later date when conditions permit and the necessary rehearsals can take place.
