An Taibhdhearc seeks company/individual to 'take the theatre in hand'

Successful applicant will run the venue and present an artistic programme for three years

AN TAIBHDHEARC, the national Irish language theatre, is seeking applications from Irish language theatre companies, artistic directors, or producers, to run the theatre.

The individual/group chosen will be responsible for developing and delivering the Irish language programme, managing the theatre, and managing the use of An Taibhdhearc, by other theatre companies, musicians, etc, as appropriate. The contract will last three years and be accompanied by funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

In a statement, the theatre said: "This development will start a new chapter as the theatre approaches her centenary in 2028. It will provide significant opportunities for synergies across the sector at a time when collaboration and co-creation is essential. Irish language theatre companies, artistic directors and producers are being invited to be leaders in breaking the mould."

An Taibhdhearc, founded in 1928, seeks to provide a platform for theatre in Irish, to support the development of theatre nationally, and to nurture new Irish theatre makers. The board of directors of An Taibhdhearc welcomes expressions of interest from Irish language theatre companies, artistic directors, and producers. These will be revised by an evaluation panel and shortlisted parties will be invited to make a full submission. The contract will be accompanied by the majority of the annual funding. The working language of An Taibhdhearc is Irish.
