Galway is voted friendliest city in Europe

We may not be able to travel very far at the moment, but Galway is the place to be according to readers of prestigious travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller, who have named it the friendliest city in Europe in the annual Readers' Choice Awards.

Galway topped the list of the Top Ten Friendliest Cities in Europe in the latest edition of Condé Nast Traveller, ahead of second place Dublin, showing that Ireland is still top of people's minds when it comes to holiday destinations.

The annual Readers' Choice Awards sees Condé Nast Traveller survey hundreds of thousands of readers around the world.

Welcoming the news, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “I am delighted to see that Galway has been voted the friendliest city in Europe, in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2020. It is another well-deserved accolade for the city.

"In what has been a devastating year for travel and tourism, this is some good news – reminding people everywhere that, when the time is right, Galway and Ireland are a great choice for a holiday.

"Once this crisis is past and Ireland is open again to international visitors, we in Tourism Ireland will be ready to roll out an extensive recovery kick-start programme and to play our part in delivering a sustainable recovery for the long-term future of our industry.”

The top ten friendliest cities in Europe, according to the 2020 Condé Nast Traveller survey, are:

6. Bologna, Italy

7. Edinburgh, UK
