KPMG in Galway has returned as the main sponsor for a second year for a girls’ soccer academy that is being run in Galway. The Academy, which is being run by former Ireland underage international, Emer Flatley, has seen its numbers of participants increase from just eight girls to almost 200 over the past year.
Girls from all over Galway City and county have enjoyed multiple programmes over the course of 2019/2020 ranging from winter, summer, Easter and Christmas programmes, to three week of camps this past summer also.
Speaking about the sponsorship, Head of KPMG in Galway, Laurence May, said KPMG in Galway is proud to continue our sponsorship of the Girls’ Soccer Academy this year.
“This support is part of our wider commitment to the national 20x20 initiative, which has moved the dial on how women in sport in Ireland are perceived. Initiatives such as this Academy are particularly welcome in what has been a challenging year for younger people, and we are delighted to be able to continue to partner with Emer and her team to help make it possible again this year.”
In addition to being a former Ireland International, Emer Flatley is also a coach with Galway WFC and the Galway U17 Squad.
“20x20 is about creating a cultural shift in our perception of girls and women in sport,” she said. “I was aware that KPMG in Ireland is one of the major backers of the 20x20 initiative and I am delighted that KPMG in Galway has come on board as main sponsor for the Girls’ Soccer Academy again this year. The aim is to get girls playing soccer and interacting with other girls in a fun and encouraging environment.”
