Public see Toyota as the best on climate change

Nationwide research from iReach has named Toyota Ireland as the No 1 car brand for climate action.

New nationwide research into the trends and changes in sustainability and climate action carried out by iReach, has revealed that Toyota is perceived as being a leading brand tackling climate change in Ireland*.

The nationally representative research of 1,000 Irish citizens highlights that the unprompted majority (10 per cent ) of the Irish public mentioned the Toyota brand first, ahead of any other - motor or otherwise - for doing the most to tackle climate change.

Boasting Ireland’s best selling car, the Corolla self-charging hybrid, Toyota Ireland also proves to be influential with the majority of Generation Z - those born 1965-1980 (14 per cent ) and Generation X - those born after 1996 (12 per cent ), ranking Toyota in the top position.

Toyota says the findings link naturally with Toyota’s brand promise ‘Built for a Better World’ as it aims to create a better world for future generations.

Toyota says it is fully committed to playing its part and leading Ireland towards zero emissions as the leaders in hybrid technology with the largest range of hybrid vehicles.

Toyota Ireland CEO Steve Tormey says Toyota Ireland staff are "very much heartened and humbled" to see the continued support for the brand in Ireland, "especially in terms of the recognition of our positive sustainability impact".

“Toyota pioneered the hybrid revolution more than 20 years ago with the introduction of the first Prius, and with more than 15 million self-charging hybrids sold globally since then, we have done more than any other car brand in terms of creating a cleaner and more sustainable motoring environment.

"Our Kaizen principle of continuous improvement has meant we are now at the point of delivering affordable and high performance hybrids that can drive in zero emissions mode for up to 80 per cent of the time, and cut thousands of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere."

He says the hybrid vehicles it sold in 2019, including Ireland’s best-selling Corolla hybrid, will cut over 60,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere over their lifetime.

“It is our firm intention to continue to lead from the front under our ‘Built for a Better World’ brand promise, and pave the way towards a more sustainable world and a zero-emissions motoring environment.”
