Legislation needs to be brought in by the Minister of Justice, Helen McEntee, that will give gardaí the power to close down Air BnBs being used for house parties.
The call has come from Fianna Fáil Galway City East councillor Alan Cheevers, who said such a move is "vital" as the State goes into Level 3 lockdown.
'As we move into Level 3, we need to all work together to avoid stricter restrictions'
"We are seeing a sharp increase in house parties at AirBnBs over the last number of months and it’s a serious concern," he said. "I have received numerous representations from residents all over the city, living next to these AirBnBs, and have serious concerns about their own health and safety."
He also called on the Government to provide the gardaí with extra resources to deal with policing the Level 3 restrictions.
Cllr Cheevers has called on the public to show solidarity at this time. "As we move into Level 3," he said, "we need to all work together to avoid stricter restrictions."
