Councillors signalled support for Debenhams workers demands

Elected members unanimously back motion calling for workers to get additional two weeks redundancy payment

Galway's city councillors this week signalled their support for the demands of former workers at Debenhams regarding redundancy and payments.

Independent Galway City East councillor Terry O'Flaherty submitted a notice of motion to the Galway City Council which was debated by councillors at Monday's meeting.

In her motion, Cllr O'Flaherty requested the council to "call on Debenhams to grant their former employees an additional two weeks redundancy payment, in addition to the statutory two weeks' payment, in recognition of the years of loyal service they have given to the company".

The motion was unanimously supported by all councillors.
