Druid production receives eleven NY nominations

Druid’s production of Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple Of Inishmaan has received 11 nominations from such prestigious New York theatre awards as Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, and Drama Desk.

The Lucille Lortel Awards recognise outstanding achievement off-Broadway while the Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Awards are presented to theatrical productions and performances both on Broadway and Off-Broadway. The winners of all these awards will be announced in May.

The Cripple Of Inishmaan has been nominated in the Outstanding Revival of a play and Outstanding Director of a play (Garry Hynes ) by Drama Desk, which is made up of theatre writers and critics. It has also bestowed a special award, Outstanding Ensemble Performance, upon the Druid cast.

The play is nominated in the categories of Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Director (Garry Hynes ), Outstanding Featured Actor (Aaron Monaghan ), and Outstanding Featured Actress (Kerry Condon ) at the Lucille Lortel Awards. In the Outer Critics Circle Award, The Cripple Of Inishmaan is nominated in the Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Director of a Play (Garry Hynes ), and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (David Pearse ) categories. The Drama League Award nominations for The Cripple Of Inishmaan are in the Distinguished Revival of a Play and Distinguished Performance Award (David Pearse ).

Garry Hynes is thrilled with her three award nominations and she added that she was “delighted that the extraordinary work of our Irish American company of actors has been recognised by the multiple nominations for best ensemble”.

David Pearse has received two nominations for his brilliant portrayal of gossip monger JohnnyPateenMike in the Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards. Previous winners include Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman, Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, and Sir Ian McKellen.

The New York run of The Cripple Of Inishmaan at The Atlantic Theatre was the best-selling production ever for the Off-Broadway theater and was twice extended due to popular demand.

Druid is currently preparing for a major British tour of its acclaimed production of JM Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World which opens in Oxford on May 7 and can be seen in Galway from June 2 to 6.
