Róisín Dubh reopens with string of September gigs

Dominick Street venue to host shows from Lisa Hannigan, Scullion, John Spillane, and more

RÓISÍN DUBH, the award winning music and comedy venue on Dominick Street re-opens its doors today, and will present a string of shows throughout September.

The shows will involve social distancing; limited seated capacity; table service; food will be served on-site by Iconic Catering; hand sanitisers will be available; and tickets will only be sold in tables of four and includes food.

Thursday’s show with Galway indie band NewDad is sold-out, but in the meantime check out their new single, ‘Blue’, the fourth track they have self-released this year. They are currently at work on their debut EP, which should be out in the coming weeks.

Scullion - featuring three of Ireland's leading musicians - Sonny Condell, Philip King, Robbie Overson - play tomorrow, Friday September 11, at 9pm.

The band formed in 1979, and took their name from the word for a kitchen servant, and released the albums Scullion (1980 ), Balance and Control (1981 ), White Side Of Night (1983 ), and Spin (1985 ). They went on an extended hiatus while King made acclaimed documentaries for TV and radio; Overson worked with Karen Casey and Eimear Quinn; while Condell reformed Tír na nÓg with Leo O'Kelly. In 2012, Scullion reformed and released the album Long Wave, followed by live album, Under The Moon.

The mighty John Spillane, one of the country’s finest and most distinctive songwriters, plays on Sunday September 13 at 9pm.

He has sold more than 100,000 albums in Ireland; been awarded two Meteor Irish Music Awards for ‘Best Act Folk’ and ‘Traditional’ act, and his songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Sean Keane, Karan Casey, Pauline Scanlon, Solas, Mary Black, Sinéad Lohan and Sharon Shannon.

Lisa Hanngian, whose music ranges from singer-songwriter, to indie, to contemporary folk, plays four shows at the Róisín this month.

Both September 19 shows are sold out, but (at the time of going to press ), tickets are available for September 20 at 7pm and September 20 at 9.30pm.

Bell X1 frontman Paul Noonan also plays four shows at the Róisín. The 7pm show on September 25 is sold out, buy tickets (again, at the time of going to press ) are available for the 9.30pm show on September 25 and the 7pm and 9.30pm shows on September 26.
