GMIT publishes Covid-19 response plan as campus re-opens

GMIT president said college will 'do its utmost' to support students 'over the next few challenging months'

Ahead of the campus re-opening on September 28, the GMIT has published its Covid-19 repose plan to ensure the safe return of students and staff.

The plan aligns with current national public health guidance and protocols and can be downloaded from the GMIT website. Among its main features are that all staff should continue to work remotely where possible and that practical-based activities will be held onsite and all other courses delivered online.

The Return to Campus Protocol urges students and staff to take personal responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus by maintaining physical distancing, wearing face coverings, and following good hygiene practice. The institute will support this through the provision of signage, sanitization stations, PPE, and regular updates.

'We have worked hard on putting plans in place to deliver on these priorities'

There is also a Frequently Asked Questions section with information on what students and staff are obliged to do before and after returning to campus; links to a range of public health and mental health and wellbeing resources; and accommodation rate with local hotels secured by GMIT and Students Union.

.

GMIT has in place a team of Lead Worker Representatives who will support and help the GMIT students and staff to follow all measures and prevent the spread of the virus.

Dr Orla Flynn, president of GMIT said the college would also be "doing our utmost" to support students "over the next few challenging months".

“Our priorities are ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our entire GMIT community and ensuring our students continue to enjoy a high-quality educational experience," she said. "We have worked hard on putting plans in place to deliver on these priorities, and I want to thank the many staff and students across all sections of the institute who assisted with this."
