Funding for a new footpath to connect existing walkways along the R333 will be a huge benefit to Headford, that is according to Fine Gael councillor Andrew Reddington.
The funding which was announced this morning as part of some €3.7 million to be invested in county roads will see €58,000 provided for the footpath.
Cllr Reddington said; "This pathway is the most used walkway in Headford. At one section there is no path whatsoever and at night, it is lethal.
"During Covid-19, I realised that a huge push had to be put on this project. I want to thank Paul Connolly engineer from Galway County County, who submitted the application and to my colleague, Deputy Ciaran Cannon, who met with me three months ago to push this on. Works will have to be finished by Christmas in order to draw funding down.
"This will be a huge benefit to the Headford area. It’s been a huge priority for me since elected in 2019."
The R333 walkway is one of two allocations of funding for Headford with the other being an allotment of €45,000 which is to be invested in new footpaths and traffic calming measures.
