Paddy Hanna - new single, new album

New single, 'Colosseum' out now. New album, The Hill, out October 16 on Strange Brew

ECCENTRIC, BRILLIANT, unpredictable, Paddy Hanna is one of the most original voices in contemporary Irish music, a point he proves again on his new single, 'Colosseum'.

A lilting indie-pop number with shades of Talking Heads, sixties pop, and Ray Manzarek-esque keyboards (courtesy of Daniel Fitzpatrick ), it is a song about Roman gladiators, sort of.

“'Colosseum' is a doo-wop song about gladiators, or more specifically a song that deals with feeling out of step in a world not made for you," says Paddy. "Your welcome to read into the allegories, but I’d be just as happy if you took the words literally and treated it as the rock'n'roll anthem for Gladiators. Your call!”

Strange Brew label to release Hanna's new album

The song will be featured on Paddy's forthcoming third album, The Hill, which will be released via Galway record label, Strange Brew, on October 16.

The album features Girl Band’s Adam Faulkner and Daniel Fox on drums and double bass; Daniel Fitzpatrick (Badhands, The Mighty Stef ) on guitar and keyboards; and Jill Redmond (vocals ). It was produced by Daniel Fox with artwork by Jill Redmond.

"The Hill is an internal musical about how the past and the present exist at the same time in our minds," says Paddy. "It deals with the struggles of mental health, the sometimes difficult search for happiness, and the moral conflict of growing up in Catholic Ireland. Most importantly, I just wanted to put the past behind me on this record, I wanted to leave it on the hill. I hope you enjoy my therapy”.
