On Saturday afternoon Galway Women’s FC defeated Bohemians home and away in the U17 and senior FAI Women’s National League.
The seniors travelled to the Oscar Traynor Centre and must have thought they were in for an easy afternoon when after 17 minutes a challenge by Bohemians' goalkeeper Courtney Maguire on Aoife Thompson saw Bohs reduced to 10. However, it was not until 52 minutes when Galway made the advantage count when Thompson opened the scoring, and that only lasted two minutes when Bronagh Kane equalised for the Dubliners.
Shauna Fox headed Galway back into the lead on 63 minutes before substitute Elle O’Flaherty added a third six minutes later. Thompson wrapped up the victory on 89 minutes to leave Galway 4-1 winners.
Meanwhile in Dangan the U17s began their league defence in dominant form, but had nothing to show at the break. However the game turned after the introduction of Rola Olusola as her pace and power helped penetrate a tiring Bohs' defence. The breakthroug came on 81 minutes when another substitute Kate Thompson set up Abbie Callanan to fire home. Then, in the move of the match, a Galway counterattack two minutes later saw Olusola break from her own half before setting up Saoirse Healy to put the game beyond doubt.
This Saturday both sides are away. The seniors make the trek to Ferrycarrig Park to take on Wexford Youths, while the U17s travel to Limerick to take on Treaty United.
