NUI Galway students offer technical support to organisations during pandemic

As part of their major projects, postgraduate students in Information Systems Management (MSc in ISM ) at the School of Business and Economics, NUI Galway are seeking ways to support local organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Noel Carroll (programme director of the MSc in ISM ), said that now, more than ever, we have witnessed the important role of information systems in supporting organisations adapt and respond to this pandemic in how we work and conduct business.

“The major project component of the MSc in ISM is extended to support organisations experiencing challenges and whereby availing of the students broad skillsets can also offer organisations an additional (technical ) resource during these challenging times.

“The project work is part of the MSc programme and requires students to analyse the operations of an organisation, focus on a problem area, design a solution to that problem in consultation with the users, and develop and implement that solution.

“Most often, solutions include, for example, the development or re-design of a web site and/or database, but scope is open and may include a variety of ideas. The projects will run from October 2020 to June 2021 and students will work in small teams to deliver high-quality projects.

“Given the current challenges associated with COVID-19, groups may work remotely (in compliance with government guidelines ) but arrangements for face-to-face meetings will be made when possible,” he said.

Dr Carroll outlined that they are currently compiling a client list and numbers are limited.

“Should your organisation have any project ideas and wish to be included in the list of client partners, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected],” he said.
