Calling all children and young people — a new music hub is coming to Wellpark

Music Generation Galway City is a new music education service for the City of the Tribes. As part of the national Music Generation network, its aim is to offer all children and young people a chance to participate in music-making. Like Barack Obama’s “leave no child behind" message, Music Generation Galway City is there to help children, regardless of background or means, to enjoy music in their life.

As part of Music Generation Galway City’s Spreagaigí programme, an exciting new after-school music hub is starting in September 2020 in Galway Community College, Wellpark Road. Parents and young people are now invited to register for weekly lessons. The hub will be open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting September 15 and 17. Lessons will be given in small groups (maximum three ) so making friends and having fun will be as much a part of the experience as learning a new musical instrument or skill.

There is a huge variety of instruments available to learn, and all sessions will be delivered by expert musicians who have vast experience and training. What’s more, Music Generation Galway City will be able to rent some of the more expensive instruments to participants for a small annual fee.

If this all sounds expensive, it's not. A 30-minute lesson every week costs just €5.50 per student. For older groups (aged 11-plus ), the lessons will be for 45 minutes, at a cost of €8 per week.

The aim is to welcome students into Galway Community College on Tuesdays and Thursdays for lessons but, if required due to the Covid-19 pandemic, online lessons on Zoom will be offered as an alternative.
