A "notorious stretch of road" on the N83 has finally got the go-ahead to be made safer for motorists.
Deputy Seán Canney says he has received confirmation the contract for the road re-alignment of Twenty-Minute Hill on the N83 Dunmore to Tuam Road has gone to tender.
"I welcome this progress on this stretch of road which has increased volume of cars following the re-opening of the motorway to Tuam," Canney says.
"This is a notorious stretch of road and has been reduced to a single lane with temporary traffic lights for over 18 months."
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has approved for the work to go to tender, and the National Roads Design office in Galway is managing the tender process.
It is expected work will begin on site this year following the tender and evaluation process.
