An online Book of Condolence for the late Mr. John Hume has been opened by the Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway, Cllr James Charity.
On behalf of the people of the County of Galway, both at home and away, a Candle for Peace has also been lit at County Hall.
The Cathaoirleach is inviting the public to express their condolences and pay tribute to Mr. Hume, RIP.
A Nobel Laureate, Mr. Hume dedicated his life to his unwavering commitment to the fundamental principles of democracy, to the pursuit of peace and reconciliation and an end to discrimination.
A truly inspirational and remarkable man, he played a pivotal role in securing the Good Friday Agreement of the 10th April, 1998 bringing peace to the island of Ireland.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies at this time to his family, particularly his wife, Pat.
The online Book of Condolence in memory of Mr. Hume is available on www.galway.ie/JohnHumeRIP The public may also contact Galway County Council on 091 509000 to have their personal message of condolence included in the online Book of Condolence. The Book will remain open until 11 August 2020.

The Funeral Mass for the late John Hume RIP will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 5 August, at 11.30am at the Cathedral of Saint Eugene, Derry.
