Derry Girls' Nicola Coughlan in new Tourism Ireland film showcasing Galway

'I'm a Galway girl, and Galway is an incredibly artistic city' says actor

Nicola Coughlan, a star of the hit Channel 4 comedy series, Derry Girls, features in a new Tourism Ireland film showcasing Galway.

Nicola, who plays the permanently on-edge Clare Devlin, will appear in one of three short films which stem from the new Dear Ireland initiative, a digital theatre collaboration between Tourism Ireland and the Abbey Theatre, which brings together 50 writers and 50 actors in a collection of ‘theatrical postcards’ from Ireland.

The short films feature actors and writers involved in Dear Ireland. The second film sees Nicola Coughlan share insights on a piece she performed, Your Hands, written by John O'Donovan. She also speaks about her Galway roots and the film features footage of Eyre Square and the Spanish Arch.

"People know me as a Derry girl but, in reality, I'm a Galway girl," said Nichola. "I think Galway is great craic and I think it's an incredibly artistic city too – it's so colourful and so rich.”

“Tourism Ireland was delighted to work with the Abbey Theatre and Nicola Coughlan to create this wonderful short film," said Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland. "It allows us to keep the beauty of Ireland to the fore and to showcase our authentic home-grown talent around the world. While we may not be able to travel just now, this film will inspire people for their future visit."
