TULCA Deep States exhibition re-opens

Nuns Island Theatre to host work by Dominic Thorpe, Veronika Merklein, and Red People

DEEP STATES, the inaugural exhibition of the UnSelfing Programme, presented by the TULCA festival, and commissioned by Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture, re-opens tomorrow, Friday July 31, at Nuns Island Theatre.

The exhibition originally opened on March 6, and a schedule of performances was planned to take place throughout the exhibition run. However, when Lockdown came into effect the exhibition had to close - until now.

Curated by Helen Carey, Deep States seeks to explore the complex states of freedom and responsibility. It features work by the artists Dominic Thorpe [, who works in video, mixed media, photography and performance; Veronika Merklein, who will present photographic and video works; and Red People (Andrej Mircev, Nikoleta Markovic and Eunseo Yi ), who create installations.

The programme takes as its theme Iris Murdoch’s concept of ‘UnSelfing’; the idea that in order to find truth, it is necessary to seek outside of one’s self; to be attentive to the world, to be curious about the people, places and ideas that surround us.

Visitors are asked to wear a mask during their visit to the gallery. Disposable masks will be available if required. See www.tulca.ie.
