Galway City Council has approved grants totalling €38,265 under the COVID-19 Emergency Fund (Phase 2 ) to support a range of local community and voluntary groups and organisations throughout Galway.
The funding focusses on helping communities and individuals maintain wellbeing through all phases of the pandemic. A total of 24 projects have been approved funding, providing financial assistance to local projects supporting the Wellbeing campaign’s three focus areas – Stay Connected, Stay Active, and Looking After Your Mental Health.
Main organisations to benefit
Galway City Partnership will get €8,000. Of that, €5,000 is for 10 laptops for training/supports for local community groups, and €3,000 is for eight Acorn smart tablets to support the needs of older people, enabling them to stay connected.
The Brothers of Charity will get €1,000 towards ICT equipment to enable delivery of physical activities, mental health supports, and interaction/guidance; €1,000 will go towards developing a garden and garden programme; and €2,591 to buy and provide wheelchair swing for people supported by the services.
The Galway Traveller Movement will get €5,000 to provide funding support for the delivery of a wraparound service for Traveller families impacted by Covid-19.
The Galway Centre for Independent Living will get €3,500 for control measures for the safe recommencement of accessible transport club service in Galway.
€1,000 has been approved for each of the following: Enable Ireland, to purchase of cleaning/sanitizing equipment and materials for transport provision; Helplink Mental Health to buy protective screening and sanitizing items for use in counselling rooms; Blue Teapot Theatre Company, for a laptop and delivery of an online drama and dance programme; Galway Autism Partnership, to facilitate operation and delivery of summer camps for children and teenagers.

Other organisations to benefit from grants include Galway Dance Project (€1,700 ), Galway Simon Community (€1,500 ), Westside Resource Centre (€1,500 ), COPE Galway (€978 ), Let's Get Talking (€986 ), SCCUL Enterprises (€9,60 ), ARD Family Resource Centre (€900 ), Brú Theatre (€750 ), Galway Parkinsons Association (€500 ), Galway Cheshire (€500 ).
