Niamh Regan asks, 'How About That Coffee?'

Galway singer-songwriter releases next single from forthcoming debut album

AT A time when we are allowed to meet each other again - albeit with restrictions and the necessity of social distancing remaining - the new single from Niamh Regan, 'How About That Coffee?', seems most apt.

'How About That Coffee?' (Black Gate Records ) is the latest release from acclaimed Galway singer-songwriter. It is streaming on Spotify and can be purchased from Niamhregan2.bandcamp.com

While best known as a folk singer, this song finds Niamh more in late night blues territory. Its waltzing rhythm and piano chords are initially mellowed and understated, but build at key moments to dramatically capture the songs themes of lost opportunities, regret, and the right words spoken too late. Throughout, Regan's voice is superb, with a tone and quality which recalls Karen Dalton.

The song features Dominic Mullan (percussion/drums ), Caimin Gilmore (double bass ), Alex Borwick (trombone ), Peter Berrill (trumpet ), and Pat Daly (strings ).

“I received a text that said 'How about that coffee?' a while back and the question just worked itself into a song instead of that catch up," says Niamh. "Originally, I had planned for a nostalgic piano based approach based off some Tom Waits recordings, but we ended up down a road that was paved by Van Morrison with shimmering strings, full band, and horns."

'How About That Coffee?' is taken from Niamh's forthcoming debut album, Hemet, which will be released on August 10.
